My top 4 films this year:
– Written, produced, directed by Duncan Jones, David Bowie’s son. Like a 70’s sci-fi..not too much about futuristic tech, a lot about the ethical ramifications of it. It even has a robot.
Gran Torino – Directed by, and staring, Clint Eastwood. An old man is old and manly. He befriends his asian neighbours, with whom he finds he has more in common than with his own family. A bit of action, a bit of drama, a bit of comedy and a lot of manliness.
Coraline – Written by Niel Gaiman, directed by Henry Selick. A fairy tale, a proper one that’s a little bit scary. The eponymous herion moves to a new house and discovers a portal to another world, with another new house and another mother. Looks ace in 3D.
Star Trek – Directed by JJ Abrahms. Did I mention I’m a nerd? Space battles, loadsa PG-13 extre-terrestrial violence and a hot green chick.
So yeah, two sci-fis, one named after a car and a shiny 3D one. I think Moon’s going to stick with me the most.
What are other people’s favourites?
